The territory between nature, culture and MTB

About the name Limone (CN), an ancient village situated in a beautiful valley at the confluence of Vermenagna and St. Giovanni rivers, scholars and historians have given many interpretations. For some of them the name derives from the Greek word leimon (grass place), which could prove the penetration of the Greeks in the region, according to others from the dialect li munt (the mountains), for others, but it seems less likely, from the fruit or the lemon tree.
The most satisfactory explanation is, however, that the name derives from the Celtic limos (elm), the “place of the elms.”
The town of Limone is located at about 1000m altitude, certainly already existing in Roman times with the function of rest and stop along the road that climbed over the mountain ridge at the Colle di Tenda of which remain well preserved large tracts with the original Roman paving, now has about 1600 inhabitants and is a popular vacation resort both in summer and winter with an enviable network of paths.
The quantity and quality of the trails that the area of Limone offers is remarkable, many of which are also passable by mountain bike through the dense network of dirt roads and military trails, woods and valleys that reach beautiful scenic spots and let discover the natural, historical and cultural reality of the territory, as the Colle di Tenda one with the nineteenth fortifications, the botanical path “La Veuve” or the Via Romana and ‘lu viasol’.
Therefore not only gravity but space and opportunity for the whole family with paths around Limone accessible from many parts of the town, easy to follow and with a quick drop, but at the same time rewarding for all the senses with the breadth views offered.
