SESTRI LEVANTE (GE)

THE TERRITORY BETWEEN LAND, CULTURE AND MTB

sestri_levante

Sestri Levante is located on the Gulf of Tigullio about 50 km from Genoa. It rises on the alluvial plain of the river Gromolo near the rocky promontory called by the inhabitants “island”. The isthmus that joins the mainland divides the Bay of Fables (Baia delle Favole), where you can find the turistic harbour, from the evocative Bay of Silence (Baia del silenzio). For this beautiful natural location the town is called the “city of two seas”.
The hinterland as well has many interesting features, historical, cultural and naturalistic with many tours in protected areas like Punta Baffe and Punta Manara.
Many of the hiking trails of the town of Sestri can be covered by mountain bike, and most of them face the sea.
The most popular routes develop on the promontory of Punta Manara, while the ones overlooking the sea rise to Punta Baffe and allow to reach Moneglia or Casarza Ligure. In the S.Anna area there is another interesting naturalistic and historical tour, which allows you to walk to Cavi Vecchio or step up to Mount Capenardo.
The food and wine of this area still reflects the characteristics of a narrow land squeezed between mountains and sea. Light meals, low in fat but still rich in flavor thanks to the wise use of land products such as aromatic herbs from the coast, enhanced by delicate extra virgin olive oil from Liguria.
