Superenduro Powered by SRAM PRO Round 2 – Punta Ala 5-6 May

The Superenduro Powered by SRAM travels to Tuscany for the second round of the 2012 PRO season, in the beautiful location of Punta Ala. The big news is that the prologue will be held in the ancient village of Castiglione. On Saturday night riders will compete along the cobbled streets, tight stairs and stone arches of this beautiful medieval town.
But who will be standing on the top step of the podium on Sunday evening? Punta Ala has always suited strong pedallers. Alex Lupato has to be the favourite, he always does well on the pedals and is keen to go one better than his second place at round one. Winner of round one Davide Sottocornola and defending champion Andrea Bruno are sure to have something to say about that. Or will a one of the foreign riders be able to steal the spotlight? The British invasion will continue and Dan Atherton, Al Stock and the surprise of round one, Paul Aston, will all be looking to get onto the top step of the podium.

For racing on Sunday, riders will compete over four special stages in the Bandite Bike Park, with a few changes from last year’s course. Stage one will be The Guardian, a series of fast corners and pedally sections. Riders then have a long transfer up to the top of Monto Stella for stage two, Rock-O. A quick stop in the Punta Ala camping resort and it’s back out for stages three and four, M&M and The Sentinel. M&M is the most technical and then the real test of the final stage. With tight sequences of corners, hardpack, rock sections, flowing singletrack it has a bit of everything you would want to find in a Superenduro trail.

For the weekend before the race the Punta Ala Camping Resort will be open to bikers, you can find more information about making reservations there on the Superenduro website. This is the third year Superenduro will visit Punta Ala and we keep coming back for the stunning trails, perfect beaches and great facilities for all the family. Away from the enduro trails, there are eight family routes and six cross-country routes.

Bandite Bike Park and Punta Ala Camping Resort are ready to give us a weekend to remember. They are putting on something for everyone, with a pumptrack, specialist bike repair shop, market, bazaar, free wi-fi and their beaches. In Punta Ala you can park the car when you arrive and the only transport you will need until you leave is your mountain bike.
